How would you measure evolutionary success? Based on your measurement, which have been the most successful organism throughout time?

(Please answer scientifically based on evolutionary values)

Defining success is difficult. Longevity (non-extinction)? Weight of numbers? Total mass?
For longevity of existence -probably viruses. They have been in existence before there was cellular life, and they are still here. There are more of them than anything else - even bacteria have viruses.
By sheer bulk, the bacteria would outweigh all other life forms.By any standard humans can not yet be considered successful. We have only been here a few million years, much less than the 200 million that the dinosaurs were around. We don’t outnumber rats or mice, so we can’t use that as a measure. We would have to wait a few more million years to see how successful we are.

Another way to look at evolutionary success is from a genetic point of view. what genes have been retained throughout all the existence of life on Earth? Possibly the genes responsible for converting ATP to ADP, giving energy? Or some other energy pathway. Not my field, I’m afraid.

I remember having a friend say success isn’t only or just measured in financial. What did he mean by that? How else can success be mesured then?

Success in life is measured by happiness. There are more important things in life than money. You have to evaluate what is it that makes you happy in the long run. Having a $200,000 annual income but no relationships with family/friends can be depressing.

Yeah you could talk to your school counselor, that’s what they are there for.

They may want you to see somebody outside the school though, but if you would prefer to stay with the counselor there I’m sure they would be willing to do that.

I know about HGTV and magazine sites which have inspiration banks, and some places charge you for it. Do you have any good place for real home pictures and inspiration? Not like catalogue stuff which are built studio sets. I want the real deal! Note: Free and online, not in printed mags.
